The fact that the Coronavirus has hampered industrial operations globally is well-known. Adding to that, the new normal that is emerging is likely to witness a reconfiguration of power centres in different domains. Moreover, it has largely impacted the supply chain, as most of the industries are dependent on China for the same, including the steel industry.

According to an ICRA Ratings report, the country’s steel demand for the financial year 2020-21 is expected to drop by around 20% due to this disruption. Further, the steel industry continues to face sustained challenges related to a labour shortage, logistics movement and financials.

To minimise the impact of these challenges, Roserve has come up with a customised solution for the Steel Industry.

Where does the Steel Industry need our assistance?

  • The steel plants include sintering mills, blast furnaces, coke plants, water-cooled rolls, extrusion experiment, pumps, chemical byproducts & processes, and transfer lines for sludge & slurries. And, all these use a tremendous amount of water in their processes.
  • The amount of wastewater generated by the steel industry is huge and has both physical and chemical effects on the receiving streams, the quality of which is very different from municipal sewage and organic industrial wastes.
  • It contains many dissolved, undisclosed substances and chemicals such as - Oil & Grease, Iron, Chromium, Aluminium, Zinc, Surfactants, Chlorides & Sulphates.
  • This wastewater requires thorough treatment in order to make it reusable while at the same time helping in preserving the water resources.

The Process

Preliminary Treatment - During this process, coarse solids and other large materials from the raw wastewater are removed.

Primary Treatment - During this stage of the treatment, the wastewater goes through different physico-chemical processes like:

  • Flocculation
  • Sedimentation
  • Dissolved Air Floatation
  • Clarification
  • Neutralisation
  • Precipitation

Secondary Treatment - During this stage, the wastewater can go through the following processes:

  • Activated Sludge Process
  • Biological Filters
  • Trickling Filters
  • Rotating Biological Contactors
  • Anaerobic Treatment Systems

Tertiary Treatment - This is the final stage of the treatment which involves membrane technology to make the wastewater available for reusable purposes.

How can Roserve help?

  • Being a business enterprise ourselves in the field of wastewater treatment, we understand the difficulties being faced by the steel industry in getting back to starting its operations.
  • Therefore, we are introducing our very efficient and convenient - Plug & Play Recycling Model, which we have come up with after thorough evaluation and research.
  • The model is designed in such a way that it will help in reducing the imbalance in cost and profit levels caused due to the COVID-19, while at the same time addressing the need for treating wastewater optimally.

The highlights of our Plug & Play Recycling Model are:

  • Ready to use equipment
  • No initial CAPEX required
  • Quick Mobilization
  • Pay per use model
  • Rental options on Zero Liquid Discharge
  • Flexible renting solutions along with short-term rental options

This Plug & Play Recycling model has been initiated by us to provide a strong foundation for the Steel Industry to ensure they achieve their sustainability norms.
