The food and beverage industry includes packaged food & beverage segment as well as the online and offline food segment. The online food segment includes the food delivery service, the offline food segment includes restaurants and cafes, while the packaged food & beverage segment includes shelf-stable foods and beverages including dairy products.

  • The novel Coronavirus has impacted the food & beverage industry in almost all regions of the world. However, there was a dual impact pertaining to the specific segments of the industry.
  • Talking about the Indian market, during the lockdown, restaurants and cafes were entirely shutdown, whereas online food delivery was allowed in certain regions. Moreover, packaged F&B industry, including grocery retail witnessed an upsurge in demand, as the consumers wanted to stock up their pantries. However, restricted logistics and labour movement did impact the industry to a large extent.
  • Now, with the lockdown being lifted, the industry is looking out for a revival in its operations and finances in full swing. And, Roserve has planned out a fool-proof plan to assist them in this process.

Where does the F&B Industry need our assistance?

  • The application of water in the food and beverage industry is huge and multipurpose.
  • Apart from being an ingredient in products, the water is a convenient, hygienic, and inexpensive resource for conducting cleanups and other production needs.
  • There is a wide variation in wastewater generated from this industry due to variation in the raw materials and products that are used.
  • The food manufacturing wastewater contains high concentrations of several organic compounds including carbohydrates, starches, proteins, vitamins, pectin, and sugar which are accountable for high chemical oxygen demand (COD) and suspended solids.
  • The resulting wastewater from a series of processes (cleaning, cutting, slicing, washing, frying, salting, coating, and packing) is one of the significant sources of environmental pollution if not treated properly.
  • And, as preserving water and recycling wastewater is the need of the hour, we step in to develop methodologies for its treatment.
  • To achieve this, we put in our valuable research to identify the various sources of wastewater in the food & beverage industry and evaluate the most suitable technologies to treat it.
  • This evaluation process involves the proposition of strategies to recover valuable compounds to a large extent and make the wastewater reusable.

The Process

  • Clarification: It helps in removing suspended solids and particulate matter with the help of flocculants and coagulants, which encourages settling.
  • Biological Treatment: This step helps upgrade the quality of the food and beverage industry effluent, by decomposing the organics.
  • Filtration: This is used for physical, mechanical, and biological separation of solids from treated water.
  • Reverse Osmosis: This step uses membrane-based separation to recover reusable water.
  • Disinfection: Disinfection with water treatment chemicals and UV destroys disease-causes organisms to prevent their spread. Processes such as ozonation and ultraviolet irradiation also help in the elimination of biological contaminants that remain in the water after treatment.
  • Softening: This step requires water softening involves removing calcium, magnesium and other metal cations using ion exchange resins.
  • Deionization: It is used for water softening, either cationic or anionic ion-exchange.

How can Roserve help?

  • Being a business enterprise ourselves in the field of wastewater treatment, we understand the difficulties being faced by the food and beverage industry in getting back to starting its operations.
  • Therefore, we are introducing our very efficient and convenient - Plug & Play Recycling Model, which we have come up with after thorough evaluation and research.
  • For existing RO_ZLD systems, you can look at us as an energy-saving solution provider with proven technologies and consistent results.
  • Moreover, with the application of our highly advanced technologies, we assure to provide 95% wastewater reusable quality for the F&B industry.
  • Can use treated water for utilities applications such as Cooling towers, Boilers, washing and cleaning purposes.
  • Treated effluent quality will also meet IS 10500 standard which is required to recycle treated effluent in the process as per the existing regulation.

Highlights of our Plug & Play Recycling Model

  • Ready to use equipment
  • Quick Mobilization
  • Pay per use model
